    Frequently Asked Questions

Why we specialize in Land Rover Series & Defenders?

Land Rovers are iconic vehicles known for their rugged charm and versatility. However, their petrol and diesel engines are noisy and polluting. Electrifying these classics not only reduces emissions but also enhances their performance. With limited daily mileage, the average user benefits significantly from a 200km range, making Land Rovers ideal candidates for conversion.

Our expertise in Land Rover specifics ensures high-quality, cost-effective upgrades and restorations.

How much horsepower will it get?

The original Land Rover engines produce 68 to 130HP. Our conversions use Tesla motors that deliver 280 to 340HP. So a lot more. However the most significant improvement is the torque – 100% torque is available at any revs, providing much faster acceleration than any V8-modified Defender. A Vintage on Volt Defender can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5 seconds!

What range can I expect on batteries?

Land Rovers are not the most aerodynamic vehicles, but we significantly improve their efficiency. With regenerative braking, most energy is returned to the battery, reducing brake pad wear. Our battery packs are available in 55kWh or 110kWh options, providing a range of 175 to 350km, depending on temperature, tires and usage.

How much does a conversion cost and what benefits to expect?

We’re proud to present the greenest Land Rover Defender, now powered by wind energy! Upcycled by Vintage on Volt, this iconic vehicle combines classic design with modern, sustainable technology.

Conversions start at €57,500 excl. VAT, including all parts & labor:

    • 55kWh battery pack
    • AC charging
    • Limited Slip Tesla Motor Differential
    • New instrument cluster
    • Cabin heater upgrade to High Voltage
    • Push button electronic parking brake
    • Cruise control
    • Cooling system on motor and batteries
    • Tested and certified by road authorities

    Optional Upgrades:

    • Tesla Performance Motor (444 NM): €3,500
    • DC CCS rapid charging: €2,750
    • Electric Power Steering (no pump): €2,850
    • GPS Traction control: €1,450
    • Additional iPad mini digital display: €750
    • Double battery pack to 110 kWh: €25,800
    • Non-Conversion Labour € 82/hr

While the investment is significant, you save on fuel, taxes, and contribute to a cleaner environment. Additionally, you gain access to environmental zones in cities.

End up with a future-proof, reliable, and super-fast vehicle that’s even more fun to drive. Drive the change with Vintage on Volt!

    How fast can I charge?

Charging is straightforward. Plug it in at the end of the day and it will be ready by morning. Regular AC charging is sufficient for most needs, but you can opt for faster 3x charging or CCS fast charging, at an additional cost.

Can I use the car as a Power Wall to make my home even more sustainable?

Yes, you can. Most vintage cars are not used daily, so when parked, you can charge them with solar panels and use them as a power wall for Vehicle to Grid (V2G) or Vehicle to Home (V2H) solutions. This allows you to charge your car with excess solar power during the day and use it to power your home at night or when the grid is down.

At Vintage on Volt, we help build bi-directional charging solutions for a sustainable and off-grid future.

How long does the process take?

We have a waiting list due to high demand but we have 2025 build spots available.

Once we have inspected the vehicle and you reserved your building spot, we start planning. Most of the work is done before you drop off the vehicle at our workshop. The up-cycle process takes about 1-2 months, after which each vehicle is tested and certified by road authorities for its electric classification.
